Free Throw is a emo band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. The band is a 5-piece consisting of frontman Corey Castro (vocals/guitar), his brother Justin Castro (bass), Jake Hughes (guitar/vocals), Lawrence Warner (guitar), and Kevin Garcia (drums).

Free Throw, formed in 2012, started to turn heads with the release of their debut album Those Days Are Gone in 2014 which came out through Count Your Lucky Stars Records. The band has since signed to the emo heavyweight Triple Crown Records and released their sophomore LP Bear Your Mind earlier this year.

Free Throw’s influences reach from all eras of emo including 90s classics like Knapsack and Mineral as well as bigger names from the early 00s such as Brand New and Taking Back Sunday.

I had the pleasure of catching Free Throw open for You Blew It! back in late February ahead of the release of Bear Your Mind. Their set was energetic and emotional as Castro poured his heart out on newer tracks like “Hope Spot” and “Randy, I Am the Liquor” as well as crowd pleasers like “Two Beers In” and “Such Luck.” The crowd managed to match Free Throw’s intensity with each fan screaming out every single lyric while pushing their way to the front of the venue.

The band kicks off another North America run with Trophy Eyes and Head North this November in Seattle. Be sure to catch them when they’re in a venue near you!
