Daya just swung by Boise State University to give the students a little taste of what she has to offer. Unfamiliar with Daya? Here’s what you need to know:
Daya (Grace Tandon) is a 17-year-old American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Daya let us in on a little secret that “Daya” is actually the Hindi translation of “Grace”, as she’s 25% Hindi. Right now, you might hear Daya on the radio (you’ve probably heard it before, actually). Right now, she’s on tour with Jack & Jack, go grab a ticket!
While at her Boise State Campus Smash, she sang two songs for us: “Sit Still, Look Pretty” and her hit single “Hide Away”.
I got to ask Daya a few questions during the Q&A put on by 103.5 Kiss FM, and here’s what she had to say:
Q) What are you most excited about while touring?
A) “I just really love traveling. I love traveling, I love doing shoes and I love how people can relate to my lyrics. Oh, and I love meeting fans after the show, too!”
Q) Who are your biggest music influences up to this point?
A) “So I started out doing more piano ballads, like R&B/Soul type things. So, I did a lot of Adele covers early on and Amy Winehouse. Love her, love her voice. I started out doing a lot that kind of stuff, so those were my early on influences.”
After Daya sang, she took a few pictures and signed some posters for students of Boise State.
Daya has a promising career, and she’s making her way up quick. During the Q&A, she mentioned that she’d like to play Madison Square Garden. There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll be hearing about that concert soon. I’m waiting, Daya.
Daya just featured on a track with The Chainsmokers, check it out!
